Deer numbers?

Okay, I need to get some feedback on this one because the numbers just don't add up for me. According to the DNR, we have an estimated 1.4 million whitetails in Michigan....Here's where the numbers get fuzzy. If you divide the 1.4 million deer by 65,000 (the approximate number of square miles in Michigan) you come up with a number of 21.86 deer per EVERY SQUARE MILE IN MICHIGAN! That number includes all of the metropolitan areas of Detroit, Flint, Saginaw, Grand Rapids, etc. Anybody else have a hard time buying into these numbers like I do or do I spend too much time thinking?

Does seem a little high when you break it down.
 
Anyone care to guess at the approximate area of urban areas to create a better guess at true deer habitat square mileage? 5000 miles or so?

I do not beleive the D.N.R  I think they are selling doe permit's for profit without any concern for our deer heard. There is no way as many deer as the D.N.R want you to beleive there is.  just my opinion
