Remington 870 Super Slug Barrel 23"

Looking to buy a rifled slug barrel for my Reminton 870 Express 12 gauge. Looks like the 23" Cantilever Super Slug barrel by Remington is the way to go. Anyone have a good/bad things to say about this barrel?

I bought a Rem 870 Super Mag, dressed it up with the Shurshot thumbhole pistolgrip stock and forend, a 23" cantilever rifled super slug barrel and a worldclass tasco 3x9x40 scope. I sighted it in an inch high at 100 yards. I used Rem 2 3/4 Accutip sabots. I felt comfortable with it and used it twice this year. The first time I took an 8 pt which I shot at 35 yards. Shot twice, he ran 25 yards. I put both slugs in the same spot. Both hit through the lungs and lodged in the oppostite side rib cage and didnt go through. The second time I took the 200 lb 10 pt below. One slug at 40 yards and again it did"nt blow through. Slug went through lungs and lodged in opposite shoulder. Great gun, love it. Will use it as primary gun next season. Only change is, I will be using the 3" Accutip sabots from now on.

I have a Rem 870 Express also.  I have the stock 20" rifled barrel and put a 2.5x7 scope on it.  I also am an inch high at 100 yards but use Lightfield 2 3/4 sabot slugs.  All my shots have been pretty much under 50 yards...great knockdown power...I like the setup.

Thanks for the post. I have a question, did the Lightfield slugs blow through or have you been able to recover any of them? I really like the Accutips. 385gr, a monster bullet. The three I recovered were all still completly intact. Each had flattened out to about a centimeter thick and all were round as a quarter. Neither deer I shot or any other I would have to suspect could survive such a round. Recoil is not as bad as you would think. I have a Mossberg 835 I use to turkey hunt with which, matched with a 3" or 3 1/5" #5, is about the same as getting hit by Hank Arron's bat.

Lightfileds have never exited for me. I also like '2' holes. Try the orginal Barnes expanders in either 2 3/4 or 3", the non-tipped verision. Remington barrels are still 1:35 so a slower slug usually will work better. The Barnes non-tipped hollowpt is around 1450 fps while it's newer platic tipped bullet is going 1900 fps and kicks. The orginal hollowpt exits almost every time for me at produces at 2" or better group out of my bolt action Browning but not so good out of my auto.
