{EMAIL} 2008 rut: Time Your Hunts

Postby Sailfish » Fri Aug 15, 2008 9:30 am

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this.

I just got this email and wanted to watch the rut video (Video: Rutting moon 2). When I clicked on the link to watch it, I got a window message asking me if I want to install the "Arabic Language Package" to watch this video!!???!!!??

I clicked no, it still took me to the link http://www.deeranddeerhunting.com/deer_player/ddh_tv.asp?showid=730721, but I can't watch it or any of the video's.

Do I have to install the Arabic language package?

Or is my PC acting up?

I clicked the cancel button and the video came up.  I did not install the language pack.

Same thing here I said no and it played 07 rut info. It said the second moon will be the rut. This year there's no second moon. I'm not sure what to think.

There is always a second full moon after the autumnal equinox - just sometime it's later than others.

Last year was around 10/26 - and I scheduled a week of hunting around that time.  Needless to say, there wasn't much chasing, seeking, or otherwise during that week.  I think Charles missed the boat on that one.

This year the second full moon after the AE will be November 13th.  I have much more confidence in that date simply because it falls in mid-November which seems be when rutting action traditionally starts in Missouri.

Pretty much a normal October/November - cool with some frost in mornings if I remember right.  Definately not hot, but not sub-normal temps either.  Pictures indicate we were wearing coats in a.m. and p.m. hunts.

I know a lot of people place credence in that the moon effects the rut, but my VERY limited experience would indicate length of day has more of an effect.  At least in the north.

Nov 13th is 2 days before our gun season. I'm hoping the date is off. Here in Michigan there's 700,000 gun hunters that will have the deer so scared they'll all be nocturnal.

Yes, it's two days before ours as well.  I would suspect some big bucks will get hit hard this year.  Perfect example as to why it might be better if states were to move the gun seasons into late November.
