Father, son fined $5K for deer hunting violations

By Tiffany Y. Latta, Staff Writer 8:25 PM Tuesday, March 16, 2010 MIDDLETOWN - A Middletown father and his son have been ordered to pay more than $5,000 in restitution costs and fines for deer hunting violations.
Richard S. Hill, 51, of Middletown and Brandon Hill, 28, of Milford, appeared Tuesday, March 16, in Hillsboro Municipal Court to face various charges.
Richard Hill was charged with hunting without permission, hunting without a license and failure to temporary tag deer. His son, Brandon, pleaded guilty to taking deer in a closed season, littering and tagging deer taken by another hunter.
The charges stem from illegal hunting activity that occurred September through November 2009, when Brandon Hill shot a deer the day before the opening of the Ohio archery season in Highland County, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife.
Brandon Hill then checked the deer in at an Adams County check station as an archery harvest and cut off the deer's head and disposed of the carcass along a township road, according to ODNR officials.
He also used one of his deer tags to check in a deer shot by his father on Nov. 3 at an Adams County check station, ODNR's investigation found.
Hillsboro Municipal Court Judge David McKenna ordered Brandon Hill to pay $5,047.81 in restitution costs, and pay $825 in the Adams County Court for two charges of providing false information to a check station.
Brandon Hill's sentence also included three years of hunting license revocation, forfeiture of the bow used to kill the deer and the shoulder mount of the deer.
His father paid a waiver of $825 in the Hillsboro Municipal Court for his involvement.

Glad to see a few of the rule breakers get caught. You hear about hunters poching deer every so ofter but even less about them getting caught. It's a shame a few bad apples have to ruin things for the other guy.

There is a publication called "Ohio Outdoor News" that comes out bimonthly and has a full page report called Cuffs & Collars in each issue. It tells a story of what the poacher did and how they got caught and what happened. I alway read that first.  (and no I don't work for the magazine)

thats why the members of this forum need to introduce new hunters to the sport and coach them on ETHICS as well as tactics NOBODY ELSE WILL MAKE THE EFFORT TO TEACH ETHICAL DEERHUNTING TO THE NON HUNTING POPULACE IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY. the actions of a few corrupt hunters can only be countered by vigorous enforcement of violations and the guidance of veteran hunters bringing new hunters both young and old into the brother(and sister)hood of the hunt
