Motivation for Hunter Fitness

Postby JPH » Sat Jun 12, 2010 3:18 am

You are more than an athlete.
Our love of athletics sprang from our desire to test and hone our skills at war and hunting. Hunting is more than a sport and we are more than athletes, but we must continue to test and hone our skills through athletics.

Your body is your primary weapon.
If you are unfit or injured, you will be an ineffective hunter and a liability to others.
Push your body.
Protect your body.

You are responsible for your own fitness.
Self educate by reading and networking with others.
Stop "working out" and start "training".
Make training a habit, not a burden.
Train appropriately for your terrain, climate and hunting style.
Train appropriately for your ability.
Enjoy your training.

You are responsible for your own diet.
Don't eat garbage.
The greatest argument for the value of hunting should be our diet.
Eat pure food as often as you can.
Nutrition takes discipline.

Fitness attributes of a hunter.
High relative strength.
High work capacity for sort/intense events.
Stamina for long events.
Mental toughness.
Durability for a long career.

The previous post was inspired by something that I saw posted on www.militaryathlete.com I borrowed heavily from it, but put my own spin on it as it applies to hunters.

I hope it connects with you. Let me know if we can make it better.
