20 ga Smooth Bore Slugs ????

Wondering if anyone out there shoots a 20ga smooth bore with slugs for deer hunting.

I have a Rem 870 Youth Express Magnum, Smooth Bore / Bird Barrel, and want to shoot slugs. My longest shot will be no more than 70-80yards.

12ga, is to much for my shoulder anymore, and now shoot the 20ga. I have some pretty good , and thick woods that are shotgun / muzzleloader / archery only. So gunna give the 20ga a try.

Any slug suggestions?

I would try a box or two of the new Federal truball rifled slugs.  The hollow cavity at the base of the slug has a small plastic ball in it the 'centers' the slug in your barrel.  My second choice would be the Winchester Super X's as they are slightly larger than the Remington and older version Federals.

I shoot a browning 20ga... rib vent bead sight...modified choke 28" smooth bore barrel and have no problems at all using Brenneke 3" mags out of it and being accurate at 100 yrds with dropping power...good luck...but with each gun you have a different shooting accuracy with different slug...he may want to practice with different brands

I'm using Winchester Super X hollow points out of an Ithaca model 37 20ga smooth bore and they do pretty good out to about 50-75yds . My grandfather just passed and he had 2 20ga Fiocchi shells in an old box dated 1996 , they were sabot slugs and I had an excellent group , right on top of each other at 40yds . Anybody know if they still make these ? I can only find info on 12ga fiocchi slugs .

My sister in law took a 5 point at 169 paces ( 130+ ) yards several years ago with a 20 ga Mossburg 500 smoothbore . He went about 40 yards and expired . She was using the cheap Federal rifled slugs .

My Wife shoots that same setup, we have found that Brenneke KO's shoot great for her. The deer she took last year was an adult doe at 90yrds. There was no exit wound, But she only went 50 yrds, collapsed and never got up. Best part, they only cost $2.99/box around here anyway.

My dad whent out hunting just before I was born with his 20 ga. smooth bore, and shot a dandy 14 pointer that grossed 160 inches. But a few years later,our house burned,and little did he now, the heat had made the barrel warp. He shot at an 8 pointer, and missed, one more shot, and the deer had only 1 antler!!![:D]

I have a Rem. 1100 w/ slug barrel and open rifle sights.I bought the gun new just before they came out w/ 1187 20 ga. I personally tried the Winchester super x,federal hi shock and Rem. sluggers. Sluggers are the best in my gun,but you probably should try a few brands also.My gun is acc. to 100 yds.
Shot a 5.5 yr. old 172 lb.(dressed weight) at 70-75 yrds. Hit a rib sq. on the the way in but the deer went only about 50 yds. and dropped. I have shot a lot of deer w/ this gun and have no plans to retire it.I also hunt thick cover where long range usually isnt an issue.
