NOTI, Oregon - Call it the case of the telltale carcass.

Two Elmira men face poaching charges after they allegedly shot a doe they spotted while driving along a logging road, then accidently rolled their vehicle down the embankment and atop the dead animal.

Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Trooper Marc Boyd responded to a report of the non-injury crash Wednesday along IP Deeded Road near Nelson Mountain. When Boyd climbed down the embankment to inspect the damaged Toyota pickup truck, he saw a crushed deer partially sticking out from beneath it. After the pickup was towed back up to the road, Boyd inspected the deer and saw it had been shot.

According to an OSP statement released Tuesday, after shooting at the animal, the two men saw the wounded deer disappear down the steep embankment. The driver then allegedly backed the pickup to the edge of the road and the pair went down the bank to try to retrieve their kill, the statement said.

Being that stupid, I am surprised they were able to hit the deer. Must have been an easy shot. The bad karme got them for sure. At least they didn't run through a fence to retrieve the deer like they do where I hunt. Shoot from the road and run straight through my fence to pick up the animal then run through the fence in a different spot to exit. Just plain ignorant people out there that ruin the good reputation of the 99% good and ethical hunters out here!

I suppose I would be considered 'too cruel' if I were to say that it was too bad that the falling truck didn't bounce off these two bozos before landing on the deer. Therefore, I won't say that.
