Winchester Model 70 question

I've heard a lot about the Winchester Model 70. Are the new ones as good as the older ones? I know the pre-1964 ones are highly sought after, but I'd just like to know if the 1980, 90, 2000 etc are better than the newest ones. What should I be looking for if want a used one?

I used to have a M70 featherweight back in the 90's  It was a great rifle 1" to 1 1/2" groups right out of the box (.270 WIN)  and it was a beautifull rifle.  The only reason I traded it was enough people convinced me it wasnt enough gun for elk so I traded it for a magnum.   BIG MISTAKE
