Well heres a first for me

Postby msbadger » Mon Jul 07, 2008 1:59 am

Just now and for the last 15 mins...I've been watching a doe with 4...yes 4 good sized healthy fawn walk through my woods eating and playing...she stopped every few mins. and nursed one fawn at a time....tagging along well behind them is a 4pt. buck...I didn't think a doe could successfully raise more than 3 fawn.....only one seemed to be smaller than the others ..but still played tag....lifes good....[:)]

Wow this is a very rare thing to see.  I remember seeing an article in an old deer and deer hunting magazine that a doe was hit by a car and half 4 or 5 healthy fawn embros.  So it is possible that she had all 4 of them.

I've never even heard of that many born to one doe.  She must be an exceptional deer, indeed!

I would guess that maybe the mother of two of the fawns may have succumbed to a vehicle and the present doe is now taking care of those "foster fawns" . [8|]
