Well... make that three does for me this season. I shot a doe this morning at 9:00 with my muzzleloader. First time ever shooting a deer with my muzzleloader! It was awesome! I field dresser her and checked her in. We put her up on the scale and she weighed 106 pounds. My freezer will now be very full. Although the season officially ends February 6th, this is my last day hunting. I am going out with a "BANG".
I haven't seen any more bucks lately and probably won't again so I knew this weekend if I saw a deer, no matter what sex it was, I would shoot it and be done with deer hunting for this season. That will make my wife happy.
But man it was freezing out! 14 Degrees with a wind chill of -4. My eyes would not stop tearing from the wind. The wind gusts were nasty and my toes were dang near frozen within an hour and a half of being in the stand. I had 1000 grain insulated boots, 3 pair of socks (two wool ones) and toes warmers and it didn't seem to help.
My 12 year old son wants to rabbit and squirrel hunt the next few weeks so it looks like that's what we'll be doing. He actually still has a 'any sex' deer tag so if he wants, he'll get in a stand and look for a deer but I think he really wants to rabbit hunt.
