I like that quote. lol . I watched Bob Foulkrod bow hunting on Realtree one year and he shot the arrow over the back of the deer.Nothing wrong yet,then he made the statement "I made the wrong guessitmate" I have to check the dictionary on that word. Anyway i thought it was strange that a "pro" would guess and let the arrow go in hope to hit the deer.

Personally I like realtree roadtrips and primos truth about hunting.....I went to college with Kieth B's sister (hard to believe she was easily = to Tiff L.) and most of those other guys are alot like the people I hunt with in their  demeanor, accents, and carrying on.  Its a lot easier to watch guys you identify with than say Team Fitz from up north.  Not that there's anything wrong with the Fitz's (I still laugh when I think about them cooking lunch on the manifold of their truck on the way to the airport)  The shows all have benefits to me ===some hosts are easy on the eyes as mentioned previously and some folks are fun to watch for whatever reason and some are annoying (new "Huntin' the  World Southern Style" = Dallas meets 106 & Park then everybody goes to the 4x4 mud nationals and shoots something--- really don't like those guys, mainly for the stoopid music) but reguardless of wether I like the show or hosts....they are what TV is meant to be, a distraction.  You can learn from some and laugh at others while rolling your eyes at others but if you get fed up turn it off!  Of course they are selling stuff!  They have to get paid!  Wish I had that job.  I would look like a camo NASCAR car if I did.  I mean come on!  Paid sponsorships to deer hunt?  Sign me up!  Twice.  I watch hunting shows to be entertained and maybe educated a bit in passing.  Nothing they do will equate to my time in a tree or good times at a camp or on a lease, but they do help me remember and look forward to fall when yesterdays temps were in the high 90's and the humidity is 100%.

One of the few hunting shows I enjoy are "The Fitzgeralds" . [:)]
I cannot stand Jackie Bushman and Ted Nugent sounds like a bag of wind ! [:@]
It irks me to no end to see someone shoot a deer , trail it and then make out like he just found it and let out a shout , "there it is"  as he walks toward the deer and camera man . 99% of the shows won't show how the Professional had a bad hit . [:'(]
Then there are the guys in the elevate shooting shack with sliding windows , propane heater , shelf for their coffe cup and shooting rest . Then make a big deal out of shooting a nice buck that they picked out 6 or 8 . [X(]
Why do they whisper after the deer is dead ? [8|]

 
I've thought the same thing about the whispering . I mean, I know deer have great hearing but I don't think it's quite THAT good!
 
One other observation about the typical hunting show......
 
I want to hunt with the CAMERAMAN who films these hunts. That sumbuck ALWAYS is the first to find the dead deer!  He's gotta be a tracker of almost supernatural powers!!!!  ; - )

Yep, I watch all the shows I can on Outdoor channel and Versus, and they are ridiculously successful, but some do give you good tips. Some of the young gals are hot, but I wouldn't compare them to porn. JEEZ!

How about the camera shots of the hunter ranging the deer, drawing his bow, etc., that were clearly shot after the fact?

I had a nice conversation one time with a fellow who was involved with the production of some hunting shows. He basically said that they DO in fact film them backwards a lot of times. They start with the kill, and go back and then film the rest of it.
 
It's entertainment, pure and simple. If you like it, watch it.
 
I'd rather either be DOING It, or if that's not possible, then I'd rather go in my back field or basement and shoot my bow....which I think I might just go and do now!

I enjoy hunting shows aswell just to see the big deer...I could however do without the monkey in the tree jumping around and putting on a show for the camera and then calming down just long enough to tell the camera how the whole hunt unfolded and how hard he worked to get his deer... then once they find the deer they jump around again for the camera and again tell us how hard they worked for the deer,, on their outfitters property...Guess what they didnt work hard but their outfitter sure did.....
 
JPH I think everybody has heard of Mark and Terry Drury and how they are 100% fair chase...But again they are doing the majority of their hunting on Outfitters properties so again they are not doing any of the work they are just simply going where their outfitter tells them the deer are... I liked them alot more in their early days now they are famous and are kind of turning into judgmental pricks telling people on their shows like dream season how they dont agreed with the shots they are taking and then not leting them continue... I have seen Mark take some pretty bad shots on the early video he even got lucky on his 194 incher took a bad shot and got lucky and hit it in the neck....
 
I would rather see hunting shows more about the deer and less about the outfitters they are hunting with....
 
Watch Eastmans Hunting Journal great show mostly done on public land all fair chase....

personally i watch alot of the outdoor channel because its there. i like primos's show and mossy oak' show's. i know everyone's in love with tiff l. but one thing that just never settled with me is some of these gals who'll do a scene telling me about scent control while they're wearin eye shadow,blush, rouge and lord knows what else. judy kovar, vicky ciancirrilo, these are ladies who HUNT. one thing i find extremely rare in the outdoor shows is the lack of thanks to the man upstairs for the bounty recieved. just my 2 scents

JPH I think everybody has heard of Mark and Terry Drury and how they are 100% fair chase...But again they are doing the majority of their hunting on Outfitters properties so again they are not doing any of the work they are just simply going where their outfitter tells them the deer are...

 
The Drury brothers hunt land that they own or lease in IA, MO, & IL. That is land that they (and their crowd of henchmen) manage. Yes, they also hunt outfitter properties in KS, TX, etc. but most of their hunts are done on their own land.
 
I've never met them myself, but I have friends that own ground bordering theirs. You hear mixed reviews about them on a personal level.

 Allot of the hunting shows are filmend on Ranches, and  guided property, but they do that so they have allot of kills, shows would be kinda boring with no kills..
