The Savage Spoke . . .

That's my story of The Big One from 2003.  He might not stack up to your biggest, but he was the biggest that day on my side of the county.  He went down at 0650 on Opening Day-- about 10 minutes into the season.

I'm not that good at judging racks. My antler radar is one of the cheaper ones, and I bought it re-furb'd over twenty years ago.  It has just three settings:  "Doe" , "Antlers",  "Quint, we're going to need a bigger boat."

Fast forward exactly 4 years-- same stand, Opening day.  I've been playing with several other rifles in the interim and I just happened to go back to the Savage 99 for the first time in four years.  I was even using the same batch of reloads with the empty from 2003 still sticking up in the box.

I killed this buck last deer season. He is a 10 point. i never got him scored but i would like to see what he scored

Lucky bullets?  Shucks!  That's superstitious.  It's how you hold your tongue to the roof of your mouth as you squeeze the trigger.[;)]

I left at least one in the field that looks like it has a chandelier on it head.  Girlfriend saw it,  #3 son saw it, and I finally saw him on the last weekend of season. I had only a doe tag left, but I got to watch him in the binos chasing does in the pasture. He made that second one look puny.  Maybe this year he'll bring that chandelier by my stand, and I'll invite him to dinner.

First firearm weekend in Illinois 2007. 50 cal muzzleloader. On opening day, I was still hunting near a thick bedding area. Wind was perfect. Surrounded by does. I was able to hide well in the cover and grunt/bleat/rattle. This guy played cat and mouse with me for about 10 minutes. Then he just "appeared" about 16-17 yards away and I smoked him. It happened so quick that I must have had about 1 1/2 inches of eye relief cuz that scope got medievel on my nose. Worth every stitch though. He's 162 1/8 inches. dressed at 211. 5 1/2 years old.

Good Golly Miss Molly-those are ALL great deer. Of course, I`m a firm believer that EVERY deer killed is a trophy, but you all have taken some monster bucks.
