96 44 carbine

I just got a ruger 96 44 lever action ruger carbine. Anybody know anything about them and are they a good gun for deer hunting.

They are a slick little lever gun.  I would say they are probably a pretty good deer gun out to 100 yards or so.

I have no experience with this particular rifle.....although Rugar makes a very fine firearm in general....
 
I can, however, speak to the .44 magnum as a deer hunting cartridge. For firearms season in Indiana, I have a sweet little Winchester lever-action model-94, in .44 mag........I shoot the Hornady LeverRevolution ammo, and with one kill under my belt with this rifle and ammo, I can attest to it`s effectiveness. It`s a "killer" combination.........you`ll be very pleased with it.

I had a buddy who hunted with Ruger 44 Mag. 

Close in,  it seemed to out-perform a 30-30.  At 100 yards the 30-30 did a better job.  That was his opinion. 

As I remember, the Ruger lever action had very short cycle.  You didn't have to move the lever all that much to get another round in.
