Indiana Record Deer Harvest 2010

Postby Wanderer » Mon Mar 14, 2011 2:34 pm

Indiana set another record total harvest in 2010 with 134,004 deer being taken. Registrations were up over the 2009 season by 1252 deer. This is the third year in a row the record has been topped. Check the DNR website at
http://www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/2717.htm for full results including county totals, harvest by sex, and kill totals not only for 2010, but all the way back to 2000.

I killed two anterless deer during archery season, my buddy killed two anterless during firearms season, so he and I were those four hanging out there......

I am skeptical with this news. Granted, I did see more bucks this year but overall I saw less deer during gun season then in years pass and I am not the only one who has said this.

Doesn't surprise me at all with most of the crops out very early.

Depending on where you hunt Bryan, there may be pockets where the herd isn`t as big as other areas, even areas nearby........dunno if your area was hit with EHD in the last few years, but there can be multiple reasons why deer sightings are down in any given area........poaching pressure, hunting pressure, changes in food sources, development........

I hunted the entire gun season at the home place this year except for one morning hunt in my wooded area up in Marshall County. I did kill a buck that morning. The balance of the season was kinda slow around my home place, but I figured that was due to having soybeans in the field south of my house instead of corn like it was the past three years. The deer pound on the beans while the leaves are green but then go elsewhere after the beans are picked. We have two neighbors who grew corn this past year and they had a lot of deer traffic during gun season.

Well the nannies that eluded me all during gun season showed up en masse monday evening. There were 11 passing through on their way to the neighbor's picked cornfield. A couple of them appear to be carrying fawns. Look at the picture and check out the deer on the left front. The one behind her looks kinda preggy too.
