sighting in scope

Hi Guys,
 
I'll be sighting in my very first rifle this weekend. I've read up on the procedures and have done my research. my question are:
1. How many rounds should I take to the range.
2. How long should I let the barrell cool off between shots, or can I shoot my grouping and then let it cool off.
 
Any other tips are greatly appreciated.

It's all going to depend upon whether or not you've had your scope boresighted on not. 

Either way, start at 25 yards to make sure you are on paper and you can dial it in close at 25 yards.  Then move to 100 yards and make your final adjustments. 

I would shoot 3 shot groups and let the rifle cool between groups for 5 to 10 minutes.  Don't move anything on the scope until you've shot 3 shots.  You'll never get it right if you walk the scope adjustments all around after a single shot.

I’ve never done this but I would be willing to try it:

If you shoot 2 to 3 rounds at a target 100 yards away and your pattern is group together (example low left of center). I heard if you can steady the gun (crosshairs on the pattern) then adjust the scope (vertical and to the right) until the crosshair is dead on center.

I would be interest if anyone has tried this.
