Want to be a better archer? Learn to tune your hunting rig. By Bob Robb Recently, I received an e-mail from a fan: “I really enjoy the advice you give all us serious deer hunters,” the archer wrote. “I am an avid bowhunter but I have to admit, I have never set up or tuned […]
Proper chassis selection will ensure that your scopes and binoculars don’t fail when low-light is a factor If you spend much time talking to anyone about optics or optics quality, eventually the conversation will turn to low-light performance. How an optical device, be it a scope of binocular, performs when ambient light approaches zero has […]
Be prepared so you can take advantage of your tractor time A few years ago during a workday on our lease we experienced a broken part on the disk of our tractor and everything came to an immediate halt. By Alan Clemons Fortunately our property was only 20 minutes or so from the nearest town. We […]
Most bowhunters prefer to stand when shooting, and that’s great. However, shooting while seated is necessary at times — even ideal. By Bob Robb I visit a lot of archery camps throughout the country each season, and I’m still amazed at how many bowhunters tell me they cannot — and will not — take the […]

I have sent a sample of soybeans (in the pods, which is how deer eat them) to […]
Antler quality parallels the nutrition status of a deer’s diet, which is composed of a variety of succulents, particularly forbs and brush species. Although nutritionally strong and highly digestible, forbs occur primarily in spring and occasionally, depending on rainfall, throughout the year. By Bob Zaiglin Protein-fortified forbs grow antlers, but brush sustains deer. During extended […]

Pedersen, who grew up hunting and fishing with his family in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, hauled in 17 touchdowns […]
Most deer shot through the vitals die quickly and run only a short distance and only in one direction before going down. Wounded deer that don’t go down quickly, though, seldom run a straight line after being hit. Most begin curving a little left or right after traveling a short distance. Directions often change […]
