2 New Easton FMJ Max Arrows for Whitetail Bowhunters

A Lighter Take on the FMJ

Easton’s FMJ line has earned a reputation among bowhunters for producing arrows that hit hard and penetrate deeply. The new 5MM FMJ Max takes that proven concept and puts it into a lighter, faster package. Available in both standard and Match Grade versions, the FMJ Max combines a seamless Acu-Carbon core with a precision 7075-alloy aluminum jacket. That combination is particularly appealing for whitetail hunters. Deer generally do not require an extremely heavy arrow, but hunters still want enough momentum and penetration to drive a broadhead through the vitals. The FMJ Max is designed to provide that balance while offering higher velocity than heavier FMJ models.

Speed Without Giving Up Punch

The FMJ Max is available in five spines — 200, 250, 300, 340 and 400 — with shaft weights ranging from 9 to 13.3 grains per inch. That gives bowhunters considerable flexibility when building an arrow around a particular draw weight, draw length, broadhead and desired finished arrow weight. For whitetail hunters, that versatility matters. A properly matched FMJ Max can provide a flatter trajectory and tighter pin gaps while still delivering the momentum and penetration expected from an FMJ. Easton also offers 16-grain HIT inserts and 50-grain steel one-piece half-outs, allowing hunters to manipulate finished arrow weight and front-of-center balance.

The aluminum jacket provides another advantage in the field. Easton says the combination of carbon and aluminum increases ballistic efficiency, energy at impact and momentum. The smaller 5mm diameter also helps reduce the arrow’s frontal profile. That makes the FMJ Max an especially good fit for whitetail hunters who want a durable, hard-hitting hunting arrow without moving to an excessively heavy setup.

Why Go Match Grade?

The Match Grade version takes consistency a step further, with shaft straightness specified at plus or minus .001 inch. It also comes with Match Grade HIT collars and is factory fletched with 3-inch AAE Hybrid Stealth vanes. Standard FMJ Max arrows use 2-inch Blazer vanes. For most whitetail hunters shooting at conventional hunting distances, standard-grade shafts should provide plenty of accuracy. However, Match Grade makes sense for hunters who demand maximum consistency, practice extensively at longer distances or simply want the tightest possible arrow tolerances.

A Strong Whitetail Combination

The FMJ Max’s biggest attraction may be its balance. It combines the penetration characteristics associated with Easton’s FMJ construction with a lighter shaft designed to produce more speed. For a whitetail hunter, that can mean a fast, durable arrow with plenty of momentum and penetration — without building an unnecessarily heavy setup.
