If you’re a deer hunter, chances are good that you are a bowfisherman, maybe have gone once or twice or know someone who loves to impale some scales.
One of the hottest bowfishing championships is set this weekend on Guntersville Lake, one of the country’s best bowfishing lakes for big carp, buffalo, gar and drum. The 13th Muzzy Classic and Alabama Championship will be April 28-29 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
The event, which is sanctioned through the Bowfishing Association of America, is set up as a Big 20 format. The tournament will award $3,500 to the first place team with the heaviest 20 fish. Remaining cash prizes will depend on the number of entries for the event. A generous prize table is available for the remaining places. The teams with the heaviest carp, longest gar, heaviest grass carp and heaviest buffalo will win new bows/prizes as well. A random raffle for other great prizes will be held as well.
Contestants will meet at the Harbor Pavilion, at 9201 Blount Ave., in Guntersville.
Pre-registration (up to 72 hours prior to the tournament) is encouraged, as boats leave in the order that they register. Registration will be held at the tournament site between 4-6 p.m. with a mandatory meeting at the launch site for all teams at 6:30 p.m.
The registration fee is $150 per team (2- or 3-man tournament format). Trailering will be allowed.
