Deer & Deer Hunting has learned that Nick Pinizzotto will be the National Deer Alliance’s first CEO. The group is set to announce the hiring later this week. The NDA is combined “super group” consisting of the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA), Whitetails Unlimited and the Mule Deer Foundation. In addition to the three deer groups, the founding board members include the Archery Trade Association, National Shooting Sports Foundation, Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies and Vista Outdoors. The NDA’s mission is to unite hunters to help preserve deer and deer hunting in North America.
“We think the NDA has the potential to have a great impact,” said board chairman Jay McAninch. McAninch, CEO of the Archery Trade Association, is a former deer research biologist and D&DH contributor.
Pinizzotto’s recent employment history includes serving as CEO of the Sportsman’s Alliance and CEO of Delta Waterfowl Foundation. Nick also is an avid outdoorsman with a particular passion for deer and deer hunting.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome Nick as our inaugural President and CEO,” said McAninch. “Following an exhaustive nationwide search, the NDA Board of Directors was unanimous that Nick was best suited to lead our alliance of deer organizations, state wildlife agencies and industry companies into the future. Nick’s vision and drive to take full advantage of the unique opportunity offered by the NDA is exciting. His executive management skills and proven track record made him the obvious choice.”
“Nick’s experience in policy and advocacy combined with his knowledge of deer and passion for deer hunting make him especially well-suited for this unique role,” said Brian Murphy, CEO of the Quality Deer Management Association and Vice Chair of the NDA. “Nick also is well connected in the outdoor industry, which will be essential to building the relationships necessary for NDA’s success.”
“This is a critical time for all deer species in North America and the formation of NDA couldn’t be more timely,” said Pinizzotto. “As someone with a deep love and respect for deer, I am certainly excited for this opportunity. More importantly, I look forward to rolling up our sleeves and working hard on the issues that impact deer and deer hunters.”
Pinizzotto officially began on December 1, 2015, and he will work from a home office in Ohio. In early 2016, he will be attending many of the major outdoor shows such as ATA and SHOT as well as the annual conventions of the Quality Deer Management Association, Mule Deer Foundation, and Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies.
