A 1930 Wisconsin hunting license sold April 22 for $2,600 at a live and online auction held by Krueger & Krueger Auctions. It was the top lot of an auction featuring a group of fishing, trapping and hunting memorabilia owned by collector Elmer Oehlke.
The rare non-resident license, in the form of a 1 3/4-inch celluloid button, was discovered 30 years ago in North Dakota. When it was sold, it was the first Wisconsin button to sell for $1,000.
Eight of the top 10 lots from the auction were celluloid Wisconsin hunting license buttons. The two non-celluloid top lots are a group of 156 Wisconsin trap tags, which sold for $800 and a lithographed hunting scene print on canvas, circa 1900, promoting the Schmidt Beverage Co., which brought $600.
