Treestand accidents are the top hunter-related problem reported each year in Georgia, according to the state’s wildlife department.

According to a report by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources takes reports on about 43 hunting-related accidents each year.

Of those, treestand accidents comprise the most. The causes are common to those found in other states: hunters falling while using climbers or ladder stands, not wearing safety harnesses, unbuckling harnesses to climb, or falling asleep.

Firearms-related accidents accounted for 104 reports during the period examined by the newspaper.
