Grow ’em Big: How Many Whitetail Does Should You Shoot?

Questions about doe management run rampant through the deer hunting community and often are focused on these three themes: How do you know when, where and how many does to shoot off a given property?

GrowemBigThey’re legitimate questions, of course. If you have a lot of deer or don’t have too many, figuring out how many to shoot can be challenging. Or even if you should shoot some, right? What if you’re not shooting many does but your neighbors are whackin’ the snot out of them?

What if you’ve been whackin’ them the last few seasons? Can you shoot too many does? Which does are “evil” and need to be taken out at all costs?

Grow ’em Big host and veteran hunter Steve Bartylla answers these questions and more in this week’s episode.

Part of a good management plan includes shooting does when the population numbers dictate doing so.

The Firminator  The Firminator is by far the most versatile piece of equipment in the industry. The operator can choose from a wide range of angle and pitch adjustments to perform many different functions. If a site is to be planted for the first time and is heavy with debris, the disk angles can be set aggressively along with a heavy forward tilt of the entire unit for deeper disk penetration. If a minimal till operation is desired, then the angles and pitch can be adjusted to just slightly cut through top litter without disturbing the soil excessively. A common question we get is do I need to disk the soil with other equipment first before using The Firminator? The answer is NO! The Firminator will do all the necessary work of planting a food plot from start to finish. www.thefirminator.com
