ScentLok Wins Lawsuit in Federal Court

On May 19, 2016, a seven member jury in Michigan found Robinson Outdoor Products, the manufacturer of ScentBlocker®, liable for making false advertising statements about its Trinity™ hunting apparel. The jury found that Robinson’s false advertising was willful.

GEAR ScentLok“Today’s announcement was a victory for our hunting community,” said Pat Hylant Jr., President and CEO of ScentLok Technologies®. “I am proud of my small but dedicated team for continuing to build our business in the face of Robinson’s false advertising.”

In 2013, Robinson began selling Trinity™ hunting apparel and launched an extensive national advertising campaign. That campaign argued that carbon was obsolete and claimed that Trinity adsorbed up to 40% more odor than carbon and up to 200% more odor than zeolite. During the lawsuit, the jury found that this 40/200 performance claim, along with additional ads containing carbon comparisons dating back to 2012, were false. The jury also found that Robinson’s false advertising was willful; Robinson knew its ad claims were false or misleading but made them nevertheless.

“This lawsuit confirms what we have always known: activated carbon is the gold standard when it comes to scent-control,” said Hylant.

Founded in 1992, Scentlok uses patented activated carbon technology at its core for odor adsorption. Its Carbon Alloy™ hunting apparel uses a combination of activated carbon, treated carbon and zeolite to adsorb odors and beat the noses of big game.

“We are happy to focus all of our energy on producing what we believe is the best clothing in the hunting industry,” Hylant stated. “Our team is continually innovating and with this behind us, we are now able to focus all of our efforts on developing the next generation of products for our consumers.”
