Ted Nugent Invited to State of the Union Address, Will Attend ‘for Americans’

Amid the gussied-up Congressional delegation, staid Supreme Court justices and assorted guests, Tuesday night’s State of the Union address will include a camouflage-loving invitee.

Ted Nugent deerTed Nugent has been invited to Washington, D.C., for President Obama’s annual State of the Union address. U.S. Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas, has given one of his gallery seat tickets to Nugent.

“I have been invited to attend the State of the Union Address in Washington, D.C., and have accepted on behalf of working hard, playing hard Americans who still understand this sacred experiment in self-government and are appalled at the dangerous and dishonest scamming by the president and his team to dismantle the greatest quality of life in the history of humankind,” Nugent said in a statement to D&DH.

Given his penchant for camouflage hunting shirts, jeans and boots — not to mention the iconic camo cowboy hat with a broadhead pin — Nugent would definitely get some TV airtime in those duds among the suit-and-tie crowd.

Nugent, originally from Michigan, lives in Texas and has a ranch there. An ardent hunter, longtime rocker and member of the National Rifle Association’s Board of Directors, he confirmed Monday he will be attending Tuesday’s address.

Stockman said in a statement he is looking forward to having Nugent with him.

“I am excited to have a patriot like Ted Nugent joining me in the House Chamber to hear from President Obama,” he said. “After the address I’m sure Ted will have plenty to say.”

With the recent issues surrounding gun control proponents pushing hard for more background checks and possible bans or restrictions, Nugent has been vocal in his debates and support of lawful ownership and the Second Amendment.

He’s debated on camera with British citizen and CNN talk show host Piers Morgan twice, the latest in Texas. While there at a firearms retail store, Morgan fired an AR-style rifle he’s so adamantly pushing to eliminate and then sat down with Nugent for this exchange.

Earlier this year, Nugent also released an “Open Letter to Joe Biden,” who headed a presidential commission on gun violence.
