IOLA, Wis. – While Willie Robertson, CEO of Duck Commander and star of reality-TV smash hit Duck Dynasty, is naturally associated with duck hunting, the Louisiana native has also caught the deer hunting bug and is executive producer of Buck Commander, which airs on Outdoor Channel.
And given his overall hunting chops, Robertson is a great fit for the “I’m a Deer Hunter” segment in Deer and Deer Hunting Magazine’s Summer edition, available on newsstands May 14.
Robertson’s fame has been built by remaining true to his hunting roots while creating content that appeals to a wide, diverse audience highlighted by a generous touch of humor.
“I wanted the youngsters to watch this and say, ‘Man, that looks like fun’ and get into deer camp. If you see Jason Aldean or one of us, I think it just looks like fun.”
Robertson’s popularity continue to grow – he has chatted up Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin at a political convention and presented at the American Country Music Awards in April –but he still relishes the calm, simple pleasure of spending time with his close-knit family and friends hunting.
“I think you can spot the camaraderie,” Robertson said to Deer and Deer Hunting’s Alan Clemons. “We talk about work, families, what’s going on … but it’s a chance to get away from the crowds or, as golfers say, get inside the ropes. We’re just enjoying being hunters at camp.”
Also featured in Deer and Deer Hunting’s Summer edition are articles on winning food plots, the proper care of venison and instructions on how to assemble a deadly silent bow.
