Gun owners, including deer hunters who live or visit Illinois heard a shot heard ’round the world last week as the Governor signed a far-sweeping ban on many popular rifles and handguns.
The list of now-banned firearms in Illinois is long, and some commonly used deer hunting guns will be included on this list if they fall into one of several criteria. Check out the excellent article by Shaw Local for a complete listing of banned guns and accessories.
Gun owners and groups vow to fight this legislation in court. It is surely to be a hotly debated item, one that will have a high probability of being overturned. In the meantime.
Among the items listed in the ban are:
- Semiautomatic rifles that have the capacity to accept a detachable magazine or that may be readily modified to accept a detachable magazine.
- Any firearm with a pistol grip or thumbhole stock, including turkey shotguns.
- Any semiautomatic rifle with a mixed magazine that can accept 10 or more rounds, except for an attached tubular device only capable of accepting .22 caliber rimfire ammunition.
- Any semiautomatic rifle with a threaded barrel.
- All Avtomat Kalashnikova types of guns.
- All Armalite Rifle types.
- Numerous Ruger, Remington and Thompson/Center rifles.
