It’s people like Heather MacDonald who are keeping the hunting tradition alive, even if it means overcoming big obstacles.
For over a year, Heather has been living in a crazy world where she continues to discover restrictions that she now has to live with. After an accident resulting in the loss of feeling in her hands and strength in her arms, pulling back her compound bow became impossible. Heather had come to love archery season more so than shotgun.
In the months leading to now, Heather spoke to many people within the hunting field inquiring on modifications for her bow with no results. The answer was always the same: “If you can’t pull back your compound bow, there is nothing you can do. In New York State you are not allowed to use a crossbow except during the crossbow season.”
She also purchased a shooting stick … and voilà! Heather can continue to enjoy archery season. The Draw-Loc allows Heather to pull back her bow with little struggle, and holds the arrow drawn and in place until the trigger is released. The shooting stick takes the weight off her arms.
“Now don’t get me wrong … There will still be bad days where my hands and arms won’t hear of any of this. And I can accept that. I will take the good days and enjoy my modifications … And look forward to finding that big guy out there.” — Heather MacDonald
Good luck, Heather!
