A deer found dead in a Thai national park had more than 15 pounds of trash in its stomach, according to officials.
Animals that eat trash will often die of starvation because their stomachs are full, but they are not receiving any nutrients. Some of the trash found inside the deer’s stomach included plastic bags and hand towels.
Thailand is one of the largest consumers of plastic in the world, with residents using about 3,000 single-use plastic bags every year.
