Jason Archer didn’t strike out to hunt deer. He actually was thinking about smoking a feral pig since he’d seen so many of them on game camera photos.

But on a comfortable Louisiana evening, Archer shot what likely will become the Louisiana non-typical record buck. It’s a stunner, with massive bases, 29-inch main beams, a 24-inch inside spread and 16 scorable points.
Rough score? A jaw-dropping 223 inches nontypical. Amazing!
Louisiana has produced some fine bucks in the last few years and this one will ramp up interest in the Pelican State as a potential sleeper for hunters to consider. Archer shot the buck with a Thompson Center Wheelen .35 during the state’s primitive weapons season. It’ll rank as one of the all-time best, if not the best.
