A Massachusetts deer hunter grabbed his crossbow and tried to save his neighbor from a vicious dog attack, but wound up killing him instead.
According to published reports, the Berkshire County, Mass., man heard his neighbor screaming in fear as his neighbor was being attacked by two pit bulls on Wednesday. The man was allegedly screaming, “Please, shoot the dogs!” as they were attacking him outside his home.
In an effort to save the man, the neighbor went back into his house, retrieved his crossbow and returned outside to see the dogs up attacking the man. He was trying to get back inside of his house as the dogs were pushing against the door. The man with the crossbow took aim and shot one of the dogs. However, the bolt went through the dog’s neck and then through the front door, striking his neighbor, killing him.
The dogs then went after responding police officers. The officers shot and killed both dogs.
The good Samaritan with the crossbow is not expected to be charged in the incident, as he was trying to save the man from being mauled by the dogs.
