Kansas Increasing Fees For Older Hunters, Anglers

Older hunters and anglers in Kansas will be paying for licenses starting in January, ending an exemption that has been in effect for four decades.

The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Tourism & Parks is ending the exemption for free licenses to hunters and anglers ages 65 or older. Beginning in January, hunters and anglers ages 65 to 74 will be required to purchase a license.

According to this story, KDWTF officials estimate a revenue boost of $900,000 to $1.5 million. Like many states’ agencies, the department is funded via license sales and federal excise tax returns instead of through the general fund.
