LaRoche, Deer Hunter, Also A Gold Glove Winner

If we had to place a bet, good money would be that Washington Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche is somewhere in the Midwest or Texas chasing a few whitetail deer and enjoying the off-season.

LaRoche won his first Gold Glove award following a superb season for the Nationals. The award is presented to the best position player in the American and National leagues based on the season’s body of work. The other finalists were Freddie Freeman of the Atlanta Braves and Joey Votto of the Cincinnatti Reds.

Bowhunting and baseball have a few similarities, of course

You have to be on top of your game, have solid equipment, be aware of your surroundings and don’t screw up. LaRoche did that on the field this season; he did not have a throwing error, posted a .995 fielding percentage and added 33 home runs and 100 RBI in an offensive boost for the Nats.

Check out this nice writeup in The Washington Post about his award.

Congrats to LaRoche for his great season – on the field – and best of luck during this second season in the woods with the Buck Commander crew.
