A trophy hunting proposal failed to gain support in a popular whitetail hunting state when a natural resources Senate committee failed to advance the measure.

The proposed legislation was brought before a Senate Natural Resources Board committee Friday in West Virginia after being organized by Committee Chairman Senator Mark Maynard. The proposal, if adopted and ratified, would have lowered the state’s buck bag limit from three down to two. Proponents of the rule change cited a desire to improve the average antler sizes on bucks in the Mountain State.
