Hunters are at odds about Montana’s new quotas for mountain lions, approved last week by the state wildlife agency.
The Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission increased the quota for cougars last Thursday. That has some lion hunters concerned about the state’s population and the deer and elk hunters wanting more lions available to hunt.
“Keep the quotas low in both females and males,” Chuck Pyles, a lion hunter, said in this report. “If we keep the quotas high I can almost bet you within a year or two you can put our cougars on the endangered species list in our region.”
What do you think? Should there be more opportunities to hunt mountain lions in the western states or should the quota numbers be kept at a lower level? Let us know your thoughts.
