This Bill Means Hunting and Fishing Licenses are Not Needed on Family Property

A bill was passed by the Senate and now the House on Tuesday that will lift restrictions on family members to hunt or fish on family property.

The Tennessee law, HB2414/SB2533, will eliminate the need for a hunting or fishing license for some family members when they hunt or fish on farmlands owned by family such as a spouse, parent or grandparent.

The permissions would extend to grandchildren, great-grandchildren and spouses of children. The land would need to be owned by only one individual or family. However, if the land is owned by blood-related first cousins, the law would apply to the cousins and their kids.

The House version of the bill passed by a 91-0 margin and was placed on the Senate Message Calendar for June 10. Although passed by the House and Senate, the two need to come to an agreement on final language.
