Where Deer Urine is Banned by State

Which states ban deer urine? The list changes periodically, but these are the current regulations in the U.S. Refer to local regulations for the most up-to-date rules and regulations.

There are four different classifications within the map:

  1. Yellow states are where all natural urine-based scents are banned. A few of these have always been that way, even before CWD was a big deal. Some are more recent.
  2. Dark blue states do not have statewide urine-based scent bans or restrictions, but a couple do restrict use in CWD management areas.
  3. Medium blue states ban urine-based scents – unless they are products that qualify for the ATA/RHSA Deer Protection Program. Most or essentially all of the major brands qualify for this and are labeled with the ATA/DPP checkmark showing they are qualified for use in these states.
  4. Light blue/grey – Louisiana banned urine-based scents except for products that meet the Deer Protection Program standards like the medium blue states above, and also are RT-QuIC tested to confirm no CWD prions are present. Other states are considering this as well. Again, most or essentially all of the major brands qualify for this and are labeled with the RT-QuIC tested logo showing that compliance as well.
