Land managers aim to attract deer into traveling and exposing themselves during daylight hunting hours. Expected to anticipate when and where deer are moving, land managers are often asked to predict the future.

On this week’s new Destination Whitetail – airing on the Sportsman Channel July 6 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT – we follow two land managers with very different styles as they offer viewers diverse strategies to consider this hunting season.
The latest from Destination Whitetail asks: When do land managers choose to hunt and why?
Cameras travel to visit Stephen T. Holman, an attorney and owner of Quail Timber Plantation, and professional land manager Steve Bartylla, to find the answers. After purchasing an initial 25 acres in 2001, Holman now owns 175 acres of prime hunting land. Tune in to find out how he experiments with soil and foliage to attract more deer.
Later, viewers join Bartylla on an ambitious hunt as he works to control the does on his land. Plus, Bartylla discusses the importance of rearranging the deer’s world to encourage growth and movement through the travel paths preferred by hunters. Learn how to manipulate your own landscape to make it a magnet for white-tailed deer.
Explore the diverse hunting landscape in the U.S. each week on Destination Whitetail, airing every Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT, only on the Sportsman Channel.
Destination Whitetail, produced by F+W Outdoors, premiered in 2012 on the Sportsman Channel. The series investigates the people, places and ways to hunt whitetail throughout North America. In the 43 states that have deer populations, their habitat varies as greatly as the traditions and methods used to hunt them.
Destination Whitetail goes behind the scenes with some of the outdoor industry’s most prolific personalities and learns how whitetails have contributed to their success. After its first season, Destination Whitetail was named a finalist for the 2012 Sportsman Choice Awards for “Best New Series.”
