Reports from all over the Midwest are starting to filter in, and the consensus is
clear: The rut is on!

Many DDH readers have reported good success not only on buck sightings, but they’ve
also indicated deer are responding very well to grunt calls, scents and light rattling.
The general feeling out there is that the first does to enter estrous are starting
to draw substantial activity from older bucks.

My friend Lance Sherman shot this 13-pointer (6×7), while hunting on Monday. Lance
is a diehard buck-hunter and has passed up many bucks already this season. Congrats
to Lance on a very impressive and unique trophy!
