Drop The Deer Antler And Put Up Your Hands!

The latest installment of our “News of the Weird” files involves law enforcement from two counties, an upset suspect and a deer antler being used as a dangerous weapon.

Yep, that happened. California, of course. Where else?

Reporter Ellen Huet posted the story on SFGate.com recently about 22-year old Timothy Cornett of Tomales, Calif., who got into a tangle with sheriff’s deputies from Sonoma and Marin counties. Cornett reportedly was going bonkers in a trailer (of course, right?) and then held the officers at bay with a “sharpened deer antler.”

OK, we know the folks in California aren’t always the sharpest tools in the box. A “sharpened deer antler?” Really? C’mon.

We have to wonder if it had been sharpened with a Dremel tool, or maybe some sandpaper, or perhaps the guy rubbed it on a concrete slab until it had a honed edge. Perhaps it was with a good ol’ whetstone and oil, which naturally would produce an edge and a lustrous sheen.

Cornett fended off the officers for about an hour before being taken into custody.
