Ted Nugent on Deer & Deer Hunting

Nugent: It’s March Madness

I like the month of March. Like all the other 11 months of the year, each and every day throughout each year is a gift to be celebrated and cherished for all it has to offer. There is so much nonstop fun stuff to do in life for us hunters that I cannot imagine missing a lick!

When most people think March Madness, they envision those amazing college athletes going for it on the basketball court.

Though all my family enjoys such athletic dedication and expertise, I have never watched any sports in my 69.4 years.

I’m way too busy doing and living to be spectating!

Having been privileged beyond measure to hang with and train with the superior warriors of the United States Marine Corp, their quality of life “carpe’ diem” mantra of improvise, adapt and overcome are truly words of wisdom to live by.

Shed hunting, trail exploring, habitat enhancement, equipment maintenance, archery and marksmanship practice and training, securing new hunting grounds, reviewing mistakes from the past season and learning to overcome them, sharing our exciting hunting stories with others, recruiting new sporters, planting trees, foodplots and crops, experimenting with new gear and techniques, and just reminiscing all those spine-tingling moments afield from last season and so much more.

I have to admit, even in the whirling dervish firestorm of overwhelming rock-n-roll sonic bombast during the recording of my new The Music Made Me Do It album with my fellow music addicted bandmates, I still enjoy many aspects of my hunting lifestyle each and every day.

The dogs and I found two more nice sheds today. I shoot my new Mathews Triax every day in between recording mayhem.

There’s always a little fine tuning to my sniper rifles and handguns and ammunition to keep me busy.

I run our fenceline checking traps and identifying new possible stand sites. There are always feeders to fill and repair, batteries to check, fire ants to kill, fences to check and repair, and the occasional fallen limb or tree to take care of.

Whether my trucks need it or not I am always wrenching something.

And of course all these daily hunting/ranching/conservation responsibilities coincide with turkey and hog scouting.

There is no question that all this hands-on dirt and blood and guts and grease and muddy independent outdoorsy lifestyle makes my guitar licks all that much more intense than the gentle pinkies of all those other guitarplayers.

Texas opening day of deerseason on September 29 this year and Michigan’s October 1 are still a long, long ways off, but us real backstrappers of America are still hard at it, living the deerhunting dream all year long like we mean it.

Hope to see you all at my Facebook campfire to celebrate and promote this truth, logic, commonsense all American freedom lifestyle.
