New Years is traditionally the time of resolutions, gameplans for quality-of-life upgrades, and in our wonderful hunting life, such upgrades are easy to identify and declare.

Deer & Deer Hunting is proud to have rocker and hunting enthusiast Ted Nugent as an exclusive blogger. Few public figures represent the hunting community as ardently as Nugent, and the Deer & Deer Hunting team has been privileged to work with the famous hunting advocate on many projects over the years.
In this exclusive collaboration, Nugent is providing content for a weekly blog that will go live every Thursday. The blog will include never-before-seen content from Nugent. Readers can look forward to a weekly view inside Nugent’s love for all things deer and hunting. He leaves politics at the door to focus on the true issues and challenges facing today’s deer hunters and the deer hunting climate.
Blogs will occasionally have a carefully selected Nugent song and readers can also look forward to exclusive videos from tednugent.com.

Here’s hoping you get out there and brave the beautiful winter conditions and get in as much deerhunting as you can, for tiz the season to be jolly, and very few things in life provide as much jolly as a day in the deerwoods doing God’s work balancing the herd and unwrapping the greatest gift of all.
Over the years I have figured out how to celebrate my annual birthday in the most effective, fun kind of way. With people hammering me forever to find out why I love bowhunting so much and always inquiring as to how to get started, I created my Sunrize Safaris as a platform to recruit, inspire and teach all those interested in a real, down to earth family bowhunting camp setting.
I’ve never been short on backstraps, but sometimes it’s a long, long road through deerhell to get there. And I love every crazy, wild moment of it.
We should all salute and thank these pioneering women for joining our ranks, and do everything in our power to invite and welcome all the women in our lives to share the Spirit Campfires of the wild.
It is not just about the day or the meal. Giving thanks is something we should do each day of our lives, and the more we do so, the happier we will be.
The silly tradition of my father’s generation to not utter the words I love you should be a thing of the past, for if we truly wish to make the world go round and bring happiness into those lives we care about, we should never hesitate to express such powerful, supportive, strengthening, sincere human emotion to everyone in our lives.
So southbound with the hammer down we are, headed from our Michigan happy hunting grounds to our Texas happy hunting grounds, and though it is always difficult and bittersweet to leave the northern properties, I must say I am as giddy as ever to get cracking on our amazing Texas properties to keep the arrows flying and the happy flames fanned ferociously.
There are no guarantees for a kill when bowhunting, but there is an inescapable guarantee that the morning will be fascinating and ultra-fun in my grandson’s namesake treestand, where the world is at least temporarily perfect and peaceful and where the mighty Spirit of the Wild runs strong and free.
Hang onto your safety harness boys and girls, for the real deerhunting excitement has just begun in earnest.
