Pet owners this week are mourning the loss of six companions in attacks by timber wolves in northern Wisconsin.
Three wolf attacks near Antigo, in Langlade County killed six dogs over two days, Friday and Saturday, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reported.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services confirmed two attacks in the town of Ackley, near Antigo, and one in the town of Elcho. The incidents were:
• On Friday, Sept. 26, wolves killed three dogs and injured two others in Ackley.
• On the same day, in a separate incident, wolves killed two dogs in Ackley.
• On Saturday, Sept. 27, wolves killed one dog in Elcho.
The pet owners reported the attacks to the DNR. Under state law, the owners might qualify for depredation loss.
