On Oct. 1, 2020, the U.S. House of Representatives passed America’s Conservation Enhancement (ACE) Act on a voice vote, continuing the significant victories for the nation’s public lands and waters, sportsmen and women, and conservation this year following the historic Great American Outdoors Act passed this summer, among others.
The ACE Act passed in the U.S. Senate on September 16, after being introduced by Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming and cosponsored by Republican and Democrat members of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus. The Act received overwhelming bipartisan support in both the House and Senate to benefit the incredible public lands and waters and natural resources that the United States enjoys.
A few of the most important provisions of the bill include:
• Create a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service task force to improve the fight against Chronic Wasting Disease.
• Reauthorize the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) with $60 million per year for five years.
• Enable the National Fish Habitat Partnership with $7.2 million per year for five years.
Now the only task left to finalize the ACE Act is the President’s signature.
