Col. Alvin Taylor has been named executive director of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

Taylor, who lives in Yonge’s Island, has 35 years experience and moves from his position as head of the department’s law enforcement division.

Working within budget cuts and the loss of about 100 personnel in the department are among Taylor’s top priorities. In an interview with the Charleston Mercury, he said there are several areas within the department that require attention.
