On Tuesday, a man was arrested for striking an Outagamie County Sheriff deputy’s patrol vehicle while the deputy was trying to remove a deer carcass from the roadway.
This happened around 1 a.m. on Tuesday when Deputy Brent Baxter stopped in the left eastbound lane of County Highway CE in the town of Buchanan, Wisconsin, and had his emergency lights on. While trying to remove the deer from the road, Deputy Baxter was paying close attention to oncoming traffic. Thanks to his attentiveness, he noticed a vehicle was failing to move out of the lane was stopped in. The large SUV struck his patrol vehicle and launched it 75 feet down the highway. The SUV then swerved across the median and nearly struck Deputy Baxter as he jumped out of the way. According to FOX 11 news, the SUV went across the westbound lanes and came to rest on the on ramp to westbound County Highway CE.
The driver of the SUV got out of his vehicle and attempted to run away, but Deputy Baxter chased him down on foot and arrested him. The 35-year-old man is accused of his third OWI. Deputy Baxter was not hurt during the incident, but his vehicle was totaled.
