If you’ve been keeping up with the Johnny King Buck saga, no doubt you know about the amazing Wisconsin buck and how Boone and Crockett will be officially scoring the deer’s monstrous rack on Sept. 22 in Montana.
What you might have missed, however, is the Deer Talk Now webcast on Wednesday that featured ousted B&C scorer Ron Boucher of Vermont and his comments about the situation. He was stripped of his scoring status, a volunteer duty he performed for 25 years, for speaking publicly about his opinions on the issue. Boucher served on two B&C panel scoring sessions including the one for the current world record Milo Hanson Buck.

Among Boucher’s comments Wednesday on Deer Talk Now:
– After a 60-day drying period, the King Buck’s gross score was 225 7/8 and following deductions of 7 3/8, the final net was 218 4/8. That score would have been almost 5 points more than the Hanson Buck’s score.
“Those numbers are staggering,” Boucher said.
– Six years worth of normal antler shrinkage could reduce a first unofficial score in January 2007. Because it has not been scored since then, today’s score is unknown.
“There is shrinkage. This is normal,” he said. “It happens all the time. Antlers are porous and green when the deer is killed, and they do shrink.”
