Justin Braswell freely admits he didn’t have a grand plan or anything other than wanting to sit in a deer stand for an evening hunt and maybe see a nice buck.
Well, things turned out pretty good for him when Lady Luck turned on the megawatt shine and smiled broadly.
Braswell, of Greenwood, Miss., was watching a few deer Dec. 18 when one got antsy and almost left the powerline field he was sitting over. But the little 6-point buck was only interested in a doe. The peak of the rut was tailing off and, as usual, bucks were checking any does.
Then Braswell looked up and saw the wide-racked monster standing in the power line.
“I didn’t even get my binoculars or anything,” he told Mississippi Sportsman, “I just went straight for my rifle.”
He got two shots at the buck, and the second connected. It was scored as a nontypical and hit 193 4/8, with a spread of more than 23 inches. Great buck!
