A shed hunter did not find the white gold he was looking for when he happened upon a human skeleton on March 18 near Humboldt, Kansas. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Allen County Sheriff’s Department are now investigating the death. The remains have yet to be identified nor do officials know how long they have been there, but they did say identification may take longer due to the condition of the remains.
“Positive identification is expected to take longer than typical cases due to the condition of the remains,” said the KBI. “Death investigations may be determined to be the result of homicide, suicide, natural causes, or an accident. No threat to the public exists related to this incident.”
Police have yet to say when an autopsy will take place, although it is scheduled. No missing person reports have been connected to the case yet.
