Well that was fun wasn’t it! Sending my 1st mystical flight of the whitetail backstrap arrow in Nebraska way back on September 10, 2014, the indescribable joys of my venison boogie throttled relentlessly through Michigan then Texas right up to February 28, 2015. Lord have mercy and somebody call me a doctor! Goodness gracious that really was killer fun, literally, and quite honestly I can hardly wait for the eruption of deerseason 2015. I got it so bad I got it good!

I haven’t calculated the actual hours I spent in patient reasoning predator ambush this past season, but I assure you they were way beyond any compulsive/obsessive disorder that I am otherwise aware of.
Isn’t that precious? Yes, it is. I didn’t invent precious, but surely I have perfected it.
Which brings me to the unique and always interesting body of my deeranddeerhunting NugeBlog, running a close second to the intense procurement of venison; venison haulers.
Deer guys are truck guys (and gals of course) and there has always been a mutual fascination with our individual choices of venison haulers and the personal customization thereof.
Take that truck-love one step further, and we have our very special inner-circle of old early Ford Bronco lovers across America and beyond. This killer little truck was designed and created by the Fred Bear of trucks, his majesty Bill Stroppe out there in California way back in 1966.
As I swan dived into my 18th Michigan deerseason that year, Bill and the gonzo truck gurus at Ford sat down to design what can basically be described as the Ford jeep. A simple, small, rugged, pragmatic, rough and tumble utility vehicle that could serve the dual purpose of family runabout and off-road fun machine.
I got my 1st Bronco in 1971 the same momentous year I arrowed my first whitetail, and pretty much was convinced I had died and gone to off-road deerhunting heaven.
That old workhorse hauled that gorgeous old doe and many a whitetail deer in Michigan and more than a few dandy muledeer from the Rocky Mountain wilderness of Colorado.
I haven’t been without the old bobtail Bronco beauty since ’71 and currently you can witness the stunning beasts cruisin’ for a bruisin’ on our Spirit of the Wild TV show each week on Outdoor Channel.
My current fleet of backstrapmobiles consists of a primo 1966 half-cab expertly rejuvenated by Build A Bronco wrenchmasters in Albion Michigan and the metal artists at Butler Body Shop in Coldwater Michigan, my firebreathing 1974 Jeff’s Bronco Graveyard, Ford Racing, Summit Racing screamer and the still in-the-works 1990 Bill Stroppe/Ford Racing Zebra monster.
There were a few years there where I may have spent more time wrenching under my Broncos that I did in treestands, and that’s a lot of hours/days/weeks/months I assure you.
With my rookie wrenching bone-bashing shortcomings, I’m surprised I have any fingers or knuckles left to abuse my guitars with!
So here’s to my fellow backstrap truckin’ BloodBrothers out there no matter what kind of rig you haul your sacred flesh in. I salute you and share your American off-road horsepower, swamprunning dreams. May your rigs always start and chug reliably into the various deer-hell to retrieve and haul our hard earned sacred flesh, bone, spirit critters.
