It’s official! This is it! No more 2014, it’s over Rover, and we are now only hours into a brand new year, 2015! Who needs fireworks? I’m in my treestand!

A very serious gungho SpiritWild BloodBrother HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015 to all my deeranddeerhunting.com buddies across the globe! Can you all believe we have actually made it this far? Can it be? And I don’t mean just surviving another hunting season, I mean surviving this wild ride we call life!

Godbless the survivors and Godbless the deerhunters everywhere!

My New Year’s resolution for this my 67th year of nonstop over the top madman addicted mystical flight of the arrow flinging campfire dancing venison roasting fullon backstrapping rock-n-roll blood and guts American Dream starts with my doing everything in my substantial power to hunt more, hunt harder, hunt better and hunt smarter in order to reduce the pain and suffering of all those long painful days getting skunked, which seem to occur each and every hunting season no matter what!

Now, mind you, I don’t want to come off like some broken hearted little whiney squawker, but getting skunked does tend to piss me off more and more the more it happens. And Lord does it ever happen a lot doggone it!

That being said, I do want to admit and celebrate that my huntseason 2014/2015 has already been the best hunting season of my life, and that is really saying something!

It must also be told that the more we get skunked the more intense the tsunami of hard earned happiness erupts when the right place at the right time magic finally descends upon us.

Is it possible that anyone anywhere doing anything could possibly experience the emotional crescendo of finally bagging a deer following the average extended investment of time on stand that it takes us? I suppose professional competitive and Olympian athletes have such spiritual moments when they win in a last minute overtime pinch or when they bring home the gold, but in my 66 years, I am not so sure I could handle any more spine tingling emotion than that which takes over my entire being when my arrows finally find their mark.

Ain’t it wonderful? Ain’t it grand! Ain’t it why we keep doing it!

It is true that there is still much deerhunting going on in many states, and the Nugent tribe remains hard at it with visions of mighty boneheaded beasts wandering before us, broadside, foreleg outstretched, looking the other way, begging for a pumpstation disconnect for the joy of joys to continue for another glorious new year of deerhunting.

I know that many of my BloodBrothers in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, New York, Indiana, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arizona and a few other states are into some of the best deerhunting there is to be had, so to you all, goodluck and happy new year of deerhunting.

As I review those states with deerhunting continuing into January, I cannot help but notice the list of states that do not allow it. Certainly my fellow Michiganiacs would love to keep after some of those surplus whitetails and fill some leftover tags on much appreciated critters that will be slammed to death along the venison infested miles of concrete slaugthterzones in the Winter Water Wonderland state that kills more than 100,000 deer a year with vehicles. Surely!

Knowing that so many states have January deerseasons for archers clearly shows how it is a win win win across the board and how it would be a win win win across the board in a few if not a bunch of other states who could see and use the increased revenues, increased family hours of recreation and the reduction of wasted critters along the highways. Surely.

So all of you deerhunters reading this in Michigan and other states where the deerseason arbitrarily comes to a screeching halt when it doesn’t have to should get together, communicate the benefits of an extended bowhunting season and get the job done.

2015 should be a year of upgrade for deerhunting opportunities everywhere. I guarantee you this, that there is not one state in the nation where the hunting regulations are perfect. In most states, the hunting regulations are anything but perfect, and in far too many cases, many states have rules, laws and regulations that defy science, biology, commonsense, logic and allthings reasonableness.

I would say 2015 would be a great year to review all regulations in your state, communicate with your state game departments and elected officials, compare questionable rules with states that have already eliminated them, and demand upgrade for better hunting all around.

It can be done, it should be done, and where there are real we the people American hunters demanding sensible rules and regulations, it can be done and I believe will be done.

Get er done as they say!
